US Marine Corps
October 2016 - December 2016
Project Description:
Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Futenma, Okinawa had a construction project to upgrade and repair the electrical system in Buildings 443A, 443B, 443C, and 443D. Part of the scope of the project was to replace the existing 400 Hz Frequency Converters inside Building 443B. Kalvio was contracted to perform onsite commissioning and operational training as the manufacturer’s representative.
Kalvio reviewed the technical documentation on the frequency converter and worked with the manufacturer’s engineering team to develop the test procedure. Kalvio then traveled to Okinawa, Japan and met with the local contractor in charge of the construction project. The local contractor was under pressure to finish the project by the end of the week to avoid liquidated damages.
Kalvio performed a field inspection of the three frequency converters and directed operational testing and commissioning of the converters lasting all day and into the night. Kalvio then worked past midnight to produce the testing reports the local contractor needed for the closeout inspection.
Kalvio assisted the local contractor during the closeout inspection the next morning. Kalvio also provided operational training on the 400 Hz Frequency Converters to the cognizant Marine personnel.
